Under the leadership of the City of Miami Gardens government, we were proud to take part in the Live Healthy Miami Gardens Project. This initiative brought together key partners like City of Miami Gardens Urban Health Partnerships, Jessie Trice, faith-based networks, and several other organizations committed to promoting healthy living in the city. One of the major outcomes of this collaboration was the Healthy Corner Store initiative, spearheaded by Florida Impact.
At Florida Impact, we recognized that families in underserved communities often rely on small retailers as their main source of food. To increase access to healthier options, we worked to bring more fruits and vegetables to these stores. In addition to connecting retailers with local farmers to source fresh produce, we provided families with information about the health benefits of featured items, along with recipes to support their journey towards healthier living.
Our collective efforts led to the successful passage of the Healthy Corner Store Initiative last year, which will continue to support small businesses that provide healthy produce in the city. Although the Live Healthy Miami Gardens Project has officially concluded, we have created a sustainable pathway for continued progress in the community, and we’re excited about what lies ahead. |
