As we celebrate 45 years and close the chapter on 2024. I reflect on the significant strides toward our mission to drive positive change across the state of Florida. Through our collective efforts, we’ve expanded our impact in vital areas in federal nutrition resources, community engagement, food access, and advocacy. We’ve seen firsthand how powerful it can be when hunger advocates unite for a common cause.

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who contributed to this year’s accomplishments. Whether you are a donor, volunteer, partner, or member of our dedicated team, you have played a key role in making Florida Impact a force for good. I am proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I’m excited about what’s to come.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are poised to tackle even bigger challenges, create more opportunities, and continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Thank you for your continued belief in our work, and for being an integral part of the Florida Impact family. I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and prosperous holiday season, and I look forward to what we can accomplish together in the coming year.

This year, we focused on several legislative priorities that included:

WIC Funding: We advocated for full federal funding of the WIC program through collaborative efforts with organizations such as Feeding Florida and Florida Policy Institute. Our efforts resulted in the full funding of WIC.

Farm Bill Advocacy: We worked tirelessly on advocating for an equitable Farm Bill, including attending legislative meetings, listening sessions, and college outreach efforts at USF and UCF.

SNAP Expansion: This year we advocated for the lifting of the SNAP ban for felons with drug convictions in Florida. This included participating in legislative meetings and visiting prisons across the state to educate inmates about resources.

Summer EBT Program: We advocated Florida's adoption of the summer EBT program, participating in planning meetings, hosting a Lunch and Learn session with legislators, and creating advocacy materials for state residents.

Next year we will continue advocating for these priorities. In addition, we will also be advocating for legislation that would end EBT Skimming  

This year, we built upon our impactful grassroots efforts to combat food insecurity. With generous support from the Debartolo Family Foundation in Tampa and Fat Brands in Orlando, we organized multiple food distribution events in both cities. These initiatives played a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and providing much-needed resources to under-resourced communities

Summer 2024 we joined Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on their Summer Break spot Party Tour. Richard Miles, Assistant Director of Food and Nutrition Services Seminole County public schools, said it perfectly " Summer Break spot is an investment not a handout “. By providing our children with meals at no cost we're making an investment in their health, education and ultimately their future.

Earlier this year we established the Eatonville Food Access Workgroup. To help create programming and share resources aimed at improving food access in the Eatonville community. One highlight of this initiative was the first annual Kuumba Storytelling Contest for Juneteenth, where students showcased Black excellence and African folklore in creative and inspiring ways.

In partnership with Children’s Home Society of Florida we brought back the Nutrition Club to Eccleston Elementary School. It provided us with hands-on experience in teaching young people about healthy living. 

We are excited about our GEM'S Youth Advocacy Program at Sheeler High School, where we prepared students for legislative meetings by helping them craft stories about their community’s needs. This culminated in a trip to Tallahassee, where students participated in college visits and teen advocacy workshops.
